Made in France circa late 19th century. Gilt brass, with painted enamel dial. Classical carriage clock made for the Chinese market, with center seconds and see-through balance and spring on the case top. Typical French 8 days movement with lever escapement, has two complications including Grande Sonnerie and Alarm.
About the clockmaker:
L. Vrard& Co. was found in 1860 and began business in Tianjin and later they were also agents of Bovet in Shanghai until 1894 and used Chinese name which known as “Hengdeli”. They made watches vary from simple models to grand complications.
