American Nine Tubular Bells Tall Case Clock

Circa approximately 1890, made by Walter H. Durfee, Providence RI, US.  

A red oak case with J.J. Elliott, London 3- weight movement, and tubular bell chiming on 9 patented hanging Harrington tubular bells (Marked WALTER H. DURFEE & CO., PROV. R.I. PAT. NOV. 8’ 87. SEP. 18’ 88 NOV. 1’ 92).  features a hand-pierced dial with hand-painted moon phase dial. 

It’s  Durfee’s bestseller pattern 18-V2, about two-thirds of all the 3-weigt chiming tall clocks he produced were this model or its variants. According to company’s record, the total production of this model was approximately 180, with its variants from 1887 to 1910.We have been advised by serious tall case clock collectors of Durfee, there is approximately 20 known models that exists in the U.S of this popular model.

Functions: hours, minutes, dead-beat seconds, moon phase, the age of moon, and quarter striking with Westminster chime or 8-bell chime.
