Late 19th Century Gilt Brass Carriage Clock

Made circa the late 19th century, signed Aubert & Klaftenberger on the dial. 16cm tall (Without Handle). Gilt brass case with a rippled handle over a beveled glass and repeat button. the underside of the case fitted with a commemorative oval plaque, white enamel rectangular Roman dial with blued steel Breguet style hands, over a subsidiary alarm dial, the stamped twin train movement with the gilt platform and bi-metallic compensated balance, strike the hours and half hours on a bell.

It is accompanied by the original traveling case with a glass inspection window and brass double-ended winding key.


Functions: Hours, minutes, alarm, hour and half-hour striking.

 

 

About Aubert & Klaftenberger

 The firm of Aubert & Klaftenberger was created in 1835 by the international partnership of two watch retailers, the London-based C.J. Klaftenberger and D.F. Aubert of Geneva. The firm was held in high esteem by Prince Albert, receiving regular orders for clocks and watches from 1845 onwards, and favored by both the Queen and the Prince as the supplier of watches to be presented as gifts. The company was also a contributor to the horological section of the Great Exhibition, winning an Honourable Mention from the Jury. In 1859 Aubert & Klaftenberger were awarded a Royal Warrant.
