19th Century British Musical Bracket Clock

Made circa 1880, signed Johns Creed Jennens on the back of the dial and movement, the dial signed William Angus, 17 Lord Street Liverpool. Size:  35.7 x 25 x 60 cm.


The inverted bell top ebonized case is embellished with gilt ornaments, on a plinth base with corresponding figural frieze decoration on ogee bracket feet, and the brass dial with floriate scroll spandrels. The rectangular case with scrolling caryatid and floral pendant corner mounts, the front with pierced quadrants and applied presentation plaque dated 1880, the sides with fishscale sounds grills, the signed 6.5" silvered Roman chapter ring with the sanded center, the arch with silvered Strike/Silent and Westminster Chimes/Chime on Eight Bells subsidiary dials, the brass triple fusee movement with foliate engraved backplate and rack strike chiming on a next of nine graduated bells and striking on a gong, with an engraved brass pendulum.
