About Watchmaker

Cartier is a French luxury jeweler and watchmaker founded in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier at 31 Rue Montorgueil in Paris and taken over by his third son in 1899. Cartier is particularly well known among European royalty and has a long history of sales to royalty. King Edward VII of Great Britain referred to Cartier as "the jeweler of kings and the king of jewelers." The brand also turned its attention to watches. Many models became contemporary icons, such as the Santos (1904) (one of the first wristwatches in production), the Tortue (1912), and the Tank (1919).

The company remained under family control until 1964. And now it is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Swiss Richemont Group, and the headquarter is still in Paris.
